Bombshell in Report Segarra did “Exactly Nothing” to Retain UTC

Today, Hartford Mayoral Candidate Luke Bronin issued the following statement in response to reports in the Hartford Business Journal that incumbent Pedro Segarra did “exactly nothing” to try to retain UTC’s headquarters in Hartford:

“Three weeks ago, I asked the question: what did Mayor Segarra do to try to keep UTC’s headquarters in Hartford? Today, the Hartford Business Journal answered the question: ‘exactly nothing.’ The revelation that Pedro Segarra did ‘exactly nothing’ to retain a Fortune 50 Company’s headquarters in Hartford is somehow both astonishing and — at the same time — not all that surprising. It’s one more example of the hands-off management style that Hartford can’t afford. Hartford could be on the cusp of something great, and we don’t need self-inflicted wounds. Yet in the last few weeks alone, we’ve seen one audit report showing that City Hall ‘failed the taxpayers miserably,’ another audit highlighting nepotism in City Hall, and now the news that Segarra’s office hadn’t even been in communication with UTC’s leadership. We need a hands-on mayor who fights every single day to retain and grow jobs and who holds himself and his team accountable.”
