Public Discussion Will Bring Residents From Across the City Together to Discuss How to End the Violence
(HARTFORD, CT) – Luke Bronin, the endorsed Democratic candidate for mayor of Hartford, today announced that the meeting will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday, August 17th at 6PM. The meeting will bring together city pastors and local civic organizations for an open discussion on the spike in violent crime. All residents who are concerned about this issue are encouraged to attend.
“With 21 homicides so far this year, it’s long past time that we had a meaningful conversation with residents and not just lip service from the Mayor in an election year. Nearly three months have passed since Pedro Segarra promised to hold public meetings on the spike in violence. Since he won’t do it, we will,” Bronin said.
Bronin recently released the “Safe Streets, Strong Neighborhoods” public safety plan.
“I was at the first closed-door meeting with the Mayor nearly three months ago, and there was really no plan of action to address the public safety issue,” said community activist Hyacinth Yennie. “I’m looking for someone who can listen and engage, and come up with real solutions that will work for our community. We don’t need a reactive mayor; we need a proactive mayor.”
“There was a meeting on crime and Segarra was a no-show, even though he announced he’d be there,” said Representative Angel Arce. “We need a mayor who shows his face.”
“All signs point to one thing – that Pedro Segarra is treating this crisis like a public relations problem, not a public safety problem,” continued Bronin. “He has no plan. He should be working to bring this city together. Instead, he’s running a divisive campaign aimed at driving us apart.
“We need a mayor who’s going to make our streets safer, our schools stronger. We need a mayor who’s going to get Hartford working again.”
