Luke Bronin Op/Ed in Hartford Courant: 5 Ways to Improve Hartford

The Hartford Courant published my Op/Ed in anticipation of the Courant’s Mayoral Debate this Wednesday, August 19, at noon.

In my Op/Ed, I write about 5 ways that we can improve Hartford:

1. Get Crime Under Control And Go After Illegal Guns: …I have proposed “Safe Streets, Strong Neighborhoods,” which focuses on getting police out of their cars and on the beat, partnering to get illegal guns off streets and making the Second Chance Society a reality. I would also create a Youth Service Corps … We have thousands of young people who need both a paycheck and a sense of purpose, and so much work to be done around Hartford.

2. Invest In Neighborhood Schools: … I want to be a mayor who puts real attention on neighborhood schools, so that more of our kids have the opportunity they need to succeed.

3. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: … We need a mayor who’s going to be out there calling people every day, saying, “How can we get you to create jobs right here in Hartford?”

4. Get Serious About Alleviating Blight And Delivering City Services: … [S]mall issues can have a big impact on quality of life.

5. Support Arts And Culture — The Heartbeat Of Hartford: We need to preserve the cultural assets we have while at the same time creating an environment that makes Hartford the cultural center of our state.
